The Big Bark is back again this week – a bit later today than usual due to some editing that was needed in post production. This week we chat about the progress of Roxy’s hole digging to Australia and we share a story of how Milly pawsomely helped my dad after a bad fall this past week.

Today we welcome back longtime supporter – dog trainer and behaviourist Samantha Rawson from The Canine College to chat all about the dynamics of a multi dog household, how to integrate your new pup with older dogs, respecting each dogs individuality and some training tips to help you through those first weeks and months of adding a new dog to your home.

Following on from Alanna’s story last week We’re continuing our mental health segment this week and have Mark Kelly of Dudes & Dogs on to tell us his story and how dogs have helped him through hard times.

The Big Bark – S04 E01 Episode #61 – My personal Story of the unbreakable Human Canine bond – How dogs can help you through times of heartache and tragedy

Welcome to Season 4 of The Big Bark Canine Podcast

It’s a brand new season and We’ve been away for quite a while so this week Darragh explains what is to come on this season. First up, I introduce the rogue known as Roxy and give you just a brief insight into the crazy things she has got up to since she arrived, how she has brought life back to our home and how she is just absolutely crazy and full of life. I chat about the impact she has had on Bruno and Milly and I tell how Grey my hair has gone since she arrived.

Focusing on mental wellbeing and the benefits that our dogs have for our mental health, this season will see a much more academic and research based format. While still focusing on all the happy dog stories, we will be diving into how dogs help us, how we help them and how they help each other. This season, we will be chatting to more dog owners, more dog business owners, trainers, vets, nutritionists and other canine professionals. We not only want to know about what makes these people love dogs so much, we want to know how dogs help their wellbeing.

The best place to start by telling how dogs help our mental health and wellbeing is by telling you my own story. I chat about why it’s taken so long for The Big Bark to come back on the air and talk about how my dogs were there for me during the most devastating time that I have ever gone through, how they helped me and my partner to get through tough times and how equally we helped them when they were coping with their own heartache and loss. The first time i’ve spoken publicly about the personal bond that I experience with my dogs and how they helped me with the loss of my brother.

With much more content coming straight from the hearts of owners and dogs alike, get ready for a season that may pull a few heartstrings but will help us all to connect with our canine partners on a much deeper level.

The Big Bark – Episode #58 – Dealing with Toxic Substances, nasty smells and a frightened dog

Coming up on this weeks show we chat on our health hub with Dr. Siobhan O Neill from Treaty Vets about toxic substances and what to do if your dog swallows or enhales toxic substances, the different types of substances that are toxic for dogs and when to seek emergency care.

We also welcome back Samantha Rawson from The Canine College on Clever Canines who chats to us about her recent trip to Pups in the Park and how her own dog had a nervous and frightening experience, and the importance of taking your time, letting your dog stop and sniff and making sure not to ruin your dog. Samantha also chats about the importance of building a bond with your dog.

We also tell you about Milly’s farts and how changing her food to a much higher quality food has helped to improve the smell that comes from Millys rear end. All this and more on this weeks episode.

So, yes! We are actually talking about Christmas this week. But its all good because we’re talking about Christmas in terms of our 2022 Christmas charity fundraiser – I Believe in Santa Paws. This year we will be launching a charity Calendar, Charity Christmas cards and hosting a bumper raffle all to raise funds for 2 amazing animal charities – Limerick Animal Welfare & DSPCA. Also coming up later today, we chat to Dr Ashleigh Bugler from Treaty vets about the free Dental checks on offer at the Limerick and Shannon clinics and we also chat Dr. Siobhan O Neill from the Treaty Vet team about Lumps and Bumps. Bruno recently had a lump removed by the team at Treaty Vets so we thought it would be a great idea to have the Treaty Vet team tell us about lumps and bumps and what to watch out for.
